Boring to Badass || DIYs & LIFE-LESSONS

April 11, 2017

 You don't have to have it all figured out to move forward... just take the next step.

Change. I can't say I'm always a fan. I mean -- sometimes life has a way of shifting things around even if a  "rearrangement" isn't necessarily welcome in the first place. At the end of the day, change happens whether we like it or not -- and sometimes it sucks balls

I moved to Ottawa back in 2010 for school and since then I've moved 5 times. Yup. FIVE TIMES. Although the actual process of moving can be a hassle, I've always enjoyed apartment-hunting aspect of it. There's something about visualizing the possibilities in a new space that makes me happy. It's like a fresh slate -- a new chapter

I would be lying if I said my latest moving experience was just as fun and exciting as my previous ones, but it was necessary. The reason behind it all is basically irrelevant at this point -- because I am absolutely in LOVE with my new home, but getting there was anything but cheerful and merry.

In fact, I spent two weeks scouring the Internet, booking appointments and trekking out to view a total of 18 different spaces around town (IN MINUS 20 WEATHER!) From muggy basements to 300 sq ft "apartments" (let's be honest -- that's barely enough space to breathe.) I felt as though I had exhausted all of my options. I was so done

After weeks of stressful searching and sleepless nights (and I'm talking about waking up at 12 a.m., 2 a.m., 4 a.m. every night like clockwork) I finally found the gem I was looking for. From the moment I walked in, I could instantly picture myself living there. It was perfect! (...other than the fact the kitchen doesn't have any drawers, a minor oversight on my part. Oops.)

I officially moved in two weekends ago -- so I'm still working out some décor ideas and projects, but the space is certainly charming and livable. Decorating and re-purposing has always been a big part of my life. I remember when I moved into my first "real" apartment, I asked my parents if we could go shopping for furniture. You see, I thought moving into my first place meant I would get new furnishings -- but was I wrong.

I spent my entire summer scouring yard sales and thrift stores to find pieces to furnish my new space. Looking back, I think it was such an important lesson and it turned out to be a fun and exciting project as well. I managed to transform old, yet inexpensive, furniture into unique and original pieces.

So as you can imagine -- those decorating genes of mine surely kicked in, once again,  and I've been whipping up a bunch of fun and easy décor ideas for my new place. Decorating a rental and making it your own can be tricky -- but very rewarding. The smallest details can turn a house into a home

That's exactly what I worked on over the weekend -- with $25 in hand, I was able to transform my entrance from boring to badass. Sometimes it just takes a bit of imagination and some elbow grease and voila!

It certainly doesn't take weeks or a heaping amount of money to create such a powerful transformation... it does, however, take a bit of TLC and some "out-of-the-box" thinking. Perhaps you should try it out? What have you got to lose?

Keep that sh*t up, babes!
